Outdoor Classes

Intro to Outdoor Climbing – The Southeast offers a wide variety of destinations to experience the challenge of outdoor rock climbing. We provide an hour of instruction at our gym, where our staff will teach you the basic skills to provide a safe top rope belay (see Intro Course description). The group will select a local “crag” to meet at for a full day of climbing. Our instructors will manage and set up safe top rope climbs over a variety grades/difficulties suitable to the group’s ability. Your group is now ready to “climb on”, while our staff provides instruction on basic climbing technique, “beta” and encouragement. Great for youth groups, birthdays and corporate team building.

Cost: $70 per person. $60 per person with a group of 8 or more.

Top Rope Anchors – In this class, you will learn how to safely and effectively set up top rope climbs using natural and artificial anchors. In this class you will learn:

* How to assess a top rope site for possible dangers and avoiding accidents
* Building anchors
* Rappelling

Intro to Trad Climbing – No bolts, no problem! Have you ever looked at a rock face and thought to yourself “Wow, I’d love to climb that!” In this course you will learn how! Traditional (“trad”) climbing utilizes protection being placed by the climbing leader instead of relying on pre-placed bolts commonly seen in the sport climbing realm. The instruction in this course is provided over 2 days at a local climbing area. You will learn:

* proper gear placement and gear selection
* route finding and route reading for rests and gear placement
* building anchors
* belaying a second
* rope management
* how to back off a climb and how to finish a climb
* rappelling
* communication

This class is best taught over a 2 day period but the basics can be covered in one.
Class is limited to 2 people
Cost: $200 for one person. If you bring a partner, it’s only $150 each!
